Internet Speed Test: What We Really Measure Through Layer 4 Testing
Internet streaming and usage is surging. In 2019, speed test was the fifth most searched term and peak downstream traffic increased by 29 percent from the previous year. Customers are conducting their own speed tests with tools that aren’t capable of accurately measuring 1 Gb speeds, which can raise red flags to service providers and cause unnecessary truck rolls. Undeniably, service providers must know that the throughput paid for is being delivered. For the past few years everything has converged to RFC6349 for Internet speed testing. Learn why RFC6349 is the preferred method to evaluate link quality along with: QoE (Quality of Experience) and the different factors that affect Internet speed test results; test cases for different types of links and the variables that must be taken into account for accurate results. About the Speaker: Ricardo Torres is a founding member of VeEX. He leads the product marketing, strategic positioning and product management of VeEX’s Ethernet portfolio. He is also responsible for the company’s global business initiatives encompassing Carrier Ethernet/IP networks, mobile backhaul, 40GE/100GE and Ethernet synchronization technologies.
